BHBLTFC fast facts:
- A community tradition since 1959! This gem is part of what it means to live in our great small town area. Appearances by elementary school principals and even the district superintendent are sure to delight.
- Non-profit. We're associated with the BH-BL PTA, and we give all our proceeds back to the PTA to support fine arts.
- Theatre FOR Children. Our mission is to promote the joy of live theater. Children shouldn't think Hollywood has a monopoly on entertainment. We simply love live theater and want to share the enthusiasm.
The long version:
What began in 1959 as The Pashley Players, a neighborhood group raising funds for the local PTA, has blossomed into a much larger theatre group. BHBL Theatre for Children is associated with the BH-BL PTA, staffed by volunteers from around the community at large: shopkeepers, engineers, scientists, store clerks, medical staff, mechanics, mail carriers, friends and neighbors - people just like you.
Productions are classic fairy tales. They include action, audience participation, music, chases, and cameo appearances by elementary school principals and the BHBL district superintendant.
Year after year, the result has been fun and affordable family entertainment geared towards introducing elementary school children and their families to the joy of live theatre. No shushing needed, as children are encouraged to voice their support for their favorite characters. The Saturday matinee is perfect for our younger theatre fans who are at their best earlier in the day. Performances are geared towards elementary school children, but enjoyed by children from 3 to 103!
Our children also benefit from the theatrical group's yearly donations to the Arts and Education programs at each BH-BL elementary school: providing materials, equipment, and services. The group has also donated funds for stage floor refinishing, black stage curtains, lighting , and sound improvements in the BH-BL high school auditorium.
